If that ain't Cambridge...

...I'll kiss your ass. Richly deserved apologies to David Alan Coe, but via Cuisine en Locale,  news of a venture so Cambridgey that it threatens to collapse into a superdense black hole of Cambridgeyness:

Nap Silverbrook and six other Dartmouth Farms proudly announce a Carbon Reduced Community Supported Agriculture Program for the Cambridge area!

20 weeks of organic, non-certified organic and conventionally grown produce and fruit
Pedal delivery to your door or office by the New Amsterdam Bicycle delivery service*

Discounted prices compared to the Farmers' Market

I kid, what with the DAC reference and all, but it does get at one major gripe of my Boston CSA experience of a few years ago, in that it seemed a little ecounfriendly, (and a pain in the ass) to drive all the way out to Lincoln, MA for my box of mizuna and kale. My other major gripe, which was a side effect of the laudable aim of that CSA to involve at risk city kids in farming, was that it was me and a bunch of Concord hausfraus, me in my Civic, and they in their SUVs, picking up our veggies, which were being tended  by the aforementioned kids, visible in their purple tees off in the distance. Generally speaking, the hausfrauen and I were white, and the kids in the purple tees were black. Cotton was not one of the products that CSA offered, but it did feel a little bit plantationy for my taste.

*You'd get some serious glutes and whatnot pedaling one of those things around, laden with kale or not. Could the bike delivery guy supplant the UPS guy and become the new, carbon-neutral fantasy fodder for receptionists and homemakers?
