It seemed wrong to evoke a Presidential assassin on Memorial Day, but Guiteau Monday is back with a vengance for an unprecedented Guiteau Monday Twofer Tuesday. First, via Snarkastic, The Lobster Zone. It's a Skill Crane -- the device that brings good old fashioned carny economics into your local tavern. But instead of stuffed animals assembled by unhappy Chinese toddlers, it's filled with live animals! When evolution produces the first crustacean Elie Wiesel or Desmond Tutu, one imagines it will be the first invertebrate to win the Nobel Peace Prize if it gets this thing banned. (Peta's already working on it.)
Second, via a friend we will call Tribal Rachel, news of a revoltin' development in Buffalo: "Big Star": a whey drink "for Alex Chilton." I don't know that the fuck a "whey drink" is, and I don't know in what sense the drink is "for" Alex Chilton, because he is dead, and along with many others, the Cod is sad about that. These are the folks responsible, and there is nothing in the article, or on their website to indicate that they are, you know, kicking a portion of the proceeds from this whey drink to, say, music programs in Chilton's hometown of Memphis,* or, to, I dunno, New Orleans musicians who do not have health insurance, like Alex Chilton? As it stands, it looks more like a tacky attempt to cash in on the memory of a talented musician. You might be looking at a four-day week, but Guiteau Monday knows not the meaning of the word "holiday."
*Donorschoose had nothing music-related for Memphis, so in the spirit of putting money where mouth is, the Cod did spring for a copy of Their Eyes Were Watching God, for Mr. H's classroom. If you would like to do the same, it's real easy.

I know that he drank many interesting things at one time or another, but not "whey drinks." The Andy Hummel song is not "Whey Out West," after all. This stinks of rotten curds. And I still feel sad about his death, too.... He was my very favorite. No farmer's market purchase can diminish that sadness...
