The author of the post I discuss here asked if Pimento Cheese Awareness Month was "an official thing or something created by the Cod?" Keener readers will have figured out that the answer to that question is "yes." And speaking of months, some say Feb is snack foods month, and some say "no." The reason why the Cod is not a making crazy PR dollars is because he could never write a press release with the sentence "SFA and the National Potato Promotion Board (NPPB) initiated National Snack Food Month in February 1989 to increase consumption and build awareness of snacks during a month when snack food consumption was traditionally low" and not collapse into crippling laughter, a la Snoopy.
Some other folks pointed out that all you need is a trip to Hartsfield, or the mall, or the mirror, to see that perhaps Americans are TOO aware of snacks like the ones pimped by the SFA. They point out:
But don't get me wrong: I like a food party as much as the next person, but it's hard to imagine a
promotional event less needed or more dangerous to public health. That said, I'm willing to try! How about "Try Tobacco Tuesdays," "Semi-Automatic Firearms Appreciation Week" or "Befriend a Rabid Squirrel Day?" I think we all know how those celebrations could go awry."
And the whole reason for this post is that no homo, no dimorphic bestiality, I have a HUGE crush on this squirrel.

Gotta love the Brit squirrel. I see that ole Jeb Bush is the keynote speaker at SNAXPO2011. I'm there.

When the NPPB instituted SAM, the Super Bowl was played in January, and February was filled with excess supply. Natch. I'd be interested to see the seasonality today.
