A good weekend, and thus hard to find the the requisite requisites for Guiteau Monday, but this post on "moonshine" leans that way, if only for the phrase "it's the hipsterization of whiskiey." Ouch. We've laid the wood on "hipster" previously, but the thread of this post is hard to follow.
The author does well to differentiate between moonshine -- a name for illegally produced, untaxed, and clandestinely sold liquor, and white whiskey, which is unaged corn liquor of the sort that might issue from an illegal still, then there's:
And then, a taste test of various bonded, taxed, and retailed white whiskies. Fake moonshine has been around since the Cod was a minnow in possession. On the other hand, this sort of Asimovian taste test would be sort of pointless w/ real moonshine: "I liked the one from that one guy from the place, and the other one from your friend's cousin was ok...." Not real servicey. But, if there were a form of spirits (besides American Spirits) redolent of the hipster, it would be actual moonshine. Go to a party in Asheville or Nashville sometime and see -- hipsters as insufferable as anywhere, plus unlabeled Mason jars. (When you can buy a water bottle cage so you can put a quart Mason jar on your fixie, that's end times.)
Perversely, what would be right would be to make it illegal to sell legal whiskey as moonshine. Which would then make it illegal, etc. It's five o'clock somewhere, and it's also a Guiteau Monday.

Minnow in possession. Well done!

ash-vegas hipsters? hardly. any town that still supports drum circles can't have both.
i'd venture to say there is more legit moonshine in nash/ashville than most other places...almost as easy to source as white whiskey.
