What with the other Bay Area post, I figured I should wrap up the promised SF post .
I arrived on the 27th, cranky and jetlagged from 4am PST departure from the east coast, and found I could not get into my room. I left my bags, and headed to the Ferry Terminal Market. The actual market, as well as the Quincy Markety indoor part, was in full swing. Very hungry, and seeking the comfort of the familiar, and daunted by long lines elsewhere, I tucked into a Prather Ranch hot dog. Really solid, and much more assertive in the bun than a regular dog. Also worth something is the lack of the feeling of staring into the abyss that happens elsewhere.*
Given the abundance, the Prather dog felt like a bit of a cop out, so I checked out the stalls outside. I do not remember the name of the vendor, but I got a Kumamoto and a Sweetwater oyster, cold and briny, and had a seafood epiphany. Eating outside, in view of the ocean, standing up, the oyster made more sense than ever.
Dayenu, as they say, but there was more to explore. I found a corner for an open face sandwich from Captain Mike's Holy Smoke Salmon. Open faced, sockeye, with capers, red onion, and Meyer lemons. Fantastic. I kind of flubbed my interaction with the recycling concierge, but no bigs. That was lunch.
