Ted Hafer, owner of the Grit, is dead at 42. The Cod is a committed omnivore, and most trips to Athens include a stop at 5 & 10, but my lone trip to the Grit was pretty impressive. It's one of the few veggie places I've been that seemed like a restaurant, rather than an experiment. And we ate next to the band we were in town to see. In a town that's not shy about mythologizing itself, Ted Hafer's place is a legitimate institution. My thoughts are with family and friends.
