Still basking in the glow of the successful #864Banhmiproject, (deets tk), but a few things around the internets for your consideration:
Within the context of the general wrongness of pageants, it seems especially wrong to strip your beauty queen of her tiara if she gains a little weight. It seems especially wrong to do so if said queen is Latina and the pageant organizers claim she has eaten "one too many tacos." The Cod continues to be fascinated/appalled/puzzled by the asserting a member of a particular ethnic group eats a particular food = slur dynamic, but this seems like it was intended to be hurtful, and succeeded in doing so.
In my early days of 'Fessering, I had a couple of students who were quick to jump in and call bullshit when another student would, say, minimize the negative aspects of slavery. It would have been unprofessional to call a student an ignorant motherfucker during class, so they basically did it for me. It felt like having an enforcer on my roster -- someone who could be counted on to rein in the excesses of the opponent, leaving your skaters to skate. In a similar vein, Frodnesor has taken on the task of responding to the astonishingly dimwitted attack on people who eat and write about food that appeared in the Atlantic. Thanks, Frodnesor! Go read the whole thing, but it's worth pointing out that the main problem seems to be that the guy who wrote the piece sucks.
On the other hand, if the Atlantic's withering indictment of "foodies" (still hate that word, still don't know what it means) did not reduce you to a diet of Kudos bars and laxatives, you may be interested to know that Sean "Husk" Brock is curing lardo in Pappy Van Winkle barrels.
