So the Zagats got paid, no doubt. Still, it must sting a little bit to have Zagat Guides referred to like this:
Google announced today that they've acquired the proto-Yelp restaurant survey, Zagat.
The Cod is not a religious Zagat user, but they come in handy, now and again. One difference between Zagat and Yelp is that Zagat offers coherent qualitative evaluations of restaurants, while Yelp is useful for providing names and addresses when you Google* the name of a restaurant. (Really, The Blank Elite articulates the problem w/ Yelp better than I ever could.) If I'd just sold the Apollo, I'd feel about the same if someone referred to "the proto-American Idol talent show, Amateur Night at the Apollo." As Zagat rides into the sunset, do revisit:
THE ZAGAT HISTORY OF MY LAST RELATIONSHIP
*Google, trying to buy Yelp, has problems of its own.
That New Yorker thing is funny but totally misses the Zagat style. The use of quotes is only one element, albeit the most obvious.
Having "written" hundreds of those Zagat blurbs, I can tell that the structure is absolutely fixed and not that hard to figure out.

Now how will I know what New York restaurants 60-year-old dentists from Great Neck like?
