It's a deep kind of cynicism that considers provenance to be just a bunch of meaningless words used to sell things. Specifically it's a kind of cynicism about words and meaning -- that they don't really have any or deserve any -- that's unbecoming for any writer, let alone one who writes for the Times.


I don't like the guy or what he writes period. I would not want to break bread with him. But the rabbit hole image is suspect on several levels.
