So, a sad end to hockey, with a loss to a team and fanbase more concerned with percieved slights from the the team they beat than beating the team they are playing now. But! At least a food angle on both sides of the bracket. First, the LA Kings get on the Chicago pizza hater bandwagon. And buried in this story about that other time this week Montrealers got their feelings hurt by mean Bostonians, is this nugget:
Mayor Denis Coderre made another bet with New York City's Bill de Blasio over the outcome of the conference final. The winner's flag will again fly above the loser's city hall, and as an added humiliation, the losing mayor must declare the winning city's bagels superior.
As an adult, I'm with the Kings that you should not eat deep dish pizza unless you are Dennis Franz. The bagel question is a tougher one, what with the proliferation of really terrible New York-style bagels at NYC places that should know better. MTL style is not for everyone. Ironically, if I were looking for a reliable bagel in NYC, my first instinct would be to hit up Mile End for a MTL style bagel in Brooklyn.
